i think i installed Homebrew using this command:
ruby -e “$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)”
i looked for it everywhere i could think of in my iMac desktop, just to verify that it worked. --(I am not a tech-savvy person, so please keep you reply super simple okay!)-- But i can’t find it-- anyone tell me how to see if it got installed?
You interact with Homebrew purely through your Terminal.
@z.ixa open terminal and type “brew”. If you see “Example usage…” you’re good. If you see “command not found”, you’re not.
When i typed in “brew”, i got “command not found”, so that means i don’t
have it installed, but i don’t have to worry about anything if im okay with
not having it, right? (ie. there won’t be any related problems with my
having tried to do so previously?)
@z.ixa I don’t see how it would be an issue. When you gave the command it would’ve started showing all these things downloading.
great, thanks so much for your help!
Please allow me to investigate what could have happened with my home brew install. I had several hard drives failures and cloned (CCC) drives several times from a source that was not as up to date as I hoped for.
Earlier I received this return for an attempt to re-install home brew on my intel iMac running 10.8.5:
==> This script will install:
Press RETURN to continue or any other key to abort
==> Downloading and installing Homebrew…
curl: (35) error:1407742E:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:tlsv1 alert protocol version
Failed during: /bin/bash -o pipefail -c ‘/usr/bin/curl -fsSL https://github.com/Homebrew/brew/tarball/master | /usr/bin/tar xz -m --strip 1’
Is the SSL error due to my being on a foreign WLAN that is not very secure?
My gratefulness in advance to those who might be able to enlighten me about this error.
I also have an issue with finding commands. Some work, such as man brew, others such as brew uninstall or brew help do not. Everything was working alright until yesterday when I uninstalled and reinstalled it, along with a mac os update.
@system, looks like your link needs to be updated to this: https://github.com/Homebrew/brew/blob/master/CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md
