Upgrade installed without updating Homebrew

(David Nedrow) #1

When I execute brew upgrade, I would like to prevent the brew update that seems to happen automatically. For various reasons, the update on my work network takes a long time, even if nothing is updated.

I would prefer to do update—or upgrade—manually at home and just do only upgrades when I’m at work.

Is there a flag I’m missing that will prevent the update step when upgrading installed packages?

For example, the following command will generally always cause an update even when I know brew is up to date.

brew upgrade `brew outdated`

If you ever contributed to homebrew the developer flag might be set in the git config. That will make sure you always update afaik.
Removing it would only upgrade on tagged versions.
Other than that I can’t think of anything.
