Missing formula location

(Jerome Doyle) #1

It looks like pdfjam is no longer available, but I can’t find where it was deprecated. Anyone know where I can find the old formula?

Run brew info pdfjam which will show you information about how to show the old version.

Thanks for the help @MikeMcQuaid . I tried that, but it just returns:

==> Searching for a previously deleted formula...
Error: No previously deleted formula found.```

After digging some more, it looks like pdfjam is included as part of mactex. That solves my immediate issue, but I'm curious as to how I could have tracked this down vs luckily noticing it.

Ah, I see. Run cd $(brew --repo homebrew/core); git fetch --unshallow and try again?

Excellent! Thanks @MikeMcQuaid

@jeromedoyle Did that work?

(Jerome Doyle) #7

Yes, it did. The output was:

Error: No available formula with the name "pdfjam"
==> Searching for a previously deleted formula...
pdfjam was deleted from homebrew/core in commit 362d450:
  tex: migrate formulae to Homebrew/tex
Migrate the mandatory Tex dependants to Homebrew/tex.
  Part 1 of Homebrew/homebrew#38819.

To show the formula before removal run:
  git -C "$(brew --repo homebrew/core)" show 362d450^:Formula/pdfjam.rb

If you still use this formula consider creating your own tap:

For anyone I have created a tap that can be used. It however requires you to have MacTex installed. The steps are described in the readme.
