High Sierra LibreSSL, Perl and OpenSSL

(Steve Major) #1

Hi all, I’m curious if there is a way to make Homebrew’s Perl install also (and always) default to Homebrew’s OpenSSL without using paths.

With Apple’s switch to LibreSSL, if I want to install a perl module with CPAN that needs to compile against OpenSSL, I can’t seem to “make it” use HB’s OpenSSL no matter how much I Google and tweak settings.

Frankly, I have no interest in ever using Apple’s broken or half implemented SSL no matter what flavor of the week they switch to. So, as mentioned, I’d like to point Perl to it once and be done.

When I installed PHP I was able to do --with-homebrew-openssl. Does similar exist for Perl (I have not tried yet, I wanted to swing by here and ask those that know way more than I!)
