Brew is very slow

Installed homebrew on new machine and noticed it is very slow. Tried to run brew config, but it hangs on Clang string:

⋊> ~/w/g/v/target on gce ⨯ brew config

Homebrew Ruby: 2.3.7 => /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/2.3/usr/bin/ruby

Not that I have any idea how to fix the issue, but I would recommend running the command with the --debug --verbose flags… you might even try using strace to find out why its hanging. It doesn’t look like you are running it natively/locally either. Maybe try starting an interactive shell (bash), and run it from there to see if that helps?

Are you sure clang is installed? It’s not there on fresh mac installs, you must install it separately. IIRC the commands are there, but they just open windows with installation wizards, like the ones here: (

If it is popping up a “installation dialog” on the console, its probably not very useful, since it appears that Andy is connecting remotely.

@astorath You may want to try using: xcode-select --install as per the docs:

Thanks to all, I’ve debugged it a bit, the problem was with mdfind utility which was misbehaving. I’ve regenerated primary drive Spotlight cache and the issue is resolved now.
