.bash_profile: Permission denied

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
running on Win 10 Pro via Hyper-V

Having issues running the 3rd test after homebrew install.

test -r ~/.bash_profile && echo “eval ((brew --prefix)/bin/brew shellenv)” >>~/.bash_profile
bash: /home/cryptohank/.bash_profile: Permission denied

Contents of ~/.bash_profile

export GOROOT=/usr/local/go
export GOPATH=$HOME/Projects/avalanchego
export PATH=$GOPATH/bin:$GOROOT/bin:$PATH

Contents of ~/.profile

set PATH for Homebrew

eval $(/home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew/bin/brew shellenv)
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH="/home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew/opt/isl@0.18/lib/pkgconfig"
export LDFLAGS="-L/home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew/opt/isl@0.18/lib"
export CPPFLAGS="-I/home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew/opt/isl@0.18/include"

I tried changing the permissions, as well as:
brew doctor
brew update
brew cleanup

You probably don’t want to have both ~/.profile and ~/.bash_profile. When both files exist, only ~/.bash_profile is used by Bash. ~/.profile may be used by other non-Bash shells, like perhaps zsh. I personally prefer to have only ~/.profile and no ~/.bash_profile to eliminate this confusion.

Thanks! I thought as such. Something of noob here.

Bought some new hardware today, so I can seperate these two projects into their own VMs, as each has their own GO requirements that I know will probably cause me issues later on.
